 4.99 - Punch Entertainment Reign of Swords - - v1.2

  • Graphics and Sound - 3/5
  • Strategy - 5/5
  • Fun - 4/5
  • Re-playability - 4/5
  • Overall - 4/5

In an apparently endless sea of shooters and puzzle games, Reign of Swords stands out as one of the few serious strategy games for the iPhone. Set in a fantasy/medieval world, Reign of Swords puts you in command of an army of Pikemen, Catapults, Wizards and more. The game is tile and turn based, allowing you to move your units a certain number of tiles or attack nearby enemies simply by tapping on them. The controls a fairly simple to grasp which leaves the majority of the gameplay to strategy instead of madly selecting units and scrolling around the screen like an RTS. Of course, this has the downside of being a tad slower and less action packed. For fans of turn-based strategy games, like Heros of Might and Magic, Final Fantasy Tactics, Warlords and Risk, this is definitely a good choice. Plus, the map screen uses Polish flags to indicate your territories!

PROS CONS
  • Lots of units and missions
  • Great turn based strategy game
  • Easy to learn, good tutorials
  • Good story-lines
  • Online Multiplayer
  • Graphics are poor
  • Unit purchase and upgrade hard to use/figure out
  • Could use a pinch/zoom map interface control
